November is a favorite time of the year here in Charleston, SC as folks look forward to celebrating the Thanksgiving holiday with family and friends. There’s nothing better than a big, southern Thanksgiving dinner with turkey and all the trimmings. Check out Southern Living magazine for some great traditional Thanksgiving recipes including a South Carolina classic called “Lowcountry Meat Plus Three. ” There’s a lot going on in Charleston this month so be sure to check out our favorite events happening around town!

Running enthusiasts will enjoy breathtaking views of the Ashley River as they participate in the 21st Annual James Island Connector Run on Saturday, October 26. This 10k race begins & ends at Cannon Park after it winds across the James Island Connector. The event, which benefits the Gavalas Kolanko Foundation, includes a 5k Walk/Run. Post-race activities feature a live band, beer garden and cash prizes.

Bring your family on November 13 & 14 for a 2 mile Fun Run & Walk at the Holiday Festival of Lights at James Island County Park. You’ll get a sneak peek of the festival’s 700+ illuminated displays and festival’s amenities, including gift shops, marshmallow roasting, train and carousel rides, and so much more!

Sunday, November 10 brings the Charleston Cup to the Stono Ferry Race Course in Hollywood, SC. Sanctioned by The National Steeplechase Association, the Charleston Cup has become one of the premier sporting events in the Carolina Lowcountry, offering spectators the opportunity to experience live steeplechase racing at its finest. You’ll get a chance to see the beautiful timber frame pavilion recently built at Stono Ferry as a collaborative effort between Fountain Timberworks and Building Arts LLC. The gates open at 9:00 a.m., and attendees arrive early to enjoy a “tailgate ” picnic loaded with everything from champagne and caviar to fried chicken and cold beer. The paddock call rolls around at 12:00 noon and the excitement of racing begins.

Jail Break Charleston, held at The Old Jail at 21 Magazine St. located downtown in the historic district, will take place on Saturday, November 16 at the Old City Jail from 4:00-11:00pm. This all-encompassing arts festival will feature artwork, crafted goods, comedians, music, dance performers and fashion designers all collaborating to bring you “The Resurrection of Punk.” Artists and vendors will be selling their work and there will be food from local food trucks and alcohol available for sale.

Kick off the Christmas season and celebrate a beloved holiday tradition for Christmas 2013 with a progressive dining experience. For the 28th consecutive year, Charming Inns and Circa 1886 Restaurant will play host to the “Holiday Progressive Dinner.” At this festive evening event, diners journey by carriage through downtown Charleston to dine at three different locations; hors d’oeuvres at the Kings Courtyard Inn, a three-course dinner at Circa 1886 Restaurant, and coffee and dessert at the historic John Rutledge House. With evening dates beginning on the 29th of November and running through December 21 you will want to make reservations early as this popular holiday event sells out fast.

Who doesn’t enjoy the friendly competition of a chili cook-off? We certainly do! We have fielded “Team Luxury Simplified Group ” and perfected our secret chili recipe and we’re ready to take on the competition at the 14th Annual Celebrity Chili Cook Off & Oyster Roast on Saturday, November 23 at Joe Riley Park. This event is the largest annual fundraiser for Charleston Animal Society, the Lowcountry’s largest animal rescue organization. You can taste award winning chili, shuck endless oysters, and enjoy a variety of local beers and beverages. Enjoy the Kid Zone, TV Football Zone (so you won’t miss any of the match-ups!), & Game Zone. Bring your family and come out to cheer on Team LSG!
