95 Broad Street Charleston SC--Luxury Simplified Office

There’s something magical about our 4th floor at 95 Broad Street. Actually considered a ½ story because of its sloping roof line and less floor space than the bottom stories, it’s one of our favorite spaces in the newly renovated property. During the recent renovation of this building, the original 1770s wooden beams were exposed to highlight both their beauty and their historical markings.

Roman numerals were carved into the beams during the building’s construction to direct builders on the custom placement of the timber framing. Easier to carve into wood than our traditional numbering system, the Roman numeral markings were commonly referred to as marriage marks or carpenter’s marks. 233 years later, they are a perfect way to show visitors to this home the construction process.

Just as wonderful on this ½ story are the panoramic views that can be seen from its large windows. Sweeping views of Broad Street, of the rooftops over South of Broad and views of the steeples of St. Phillip’s, St. Michael’s and the Cathedral make looking out of the windows extraordinary—especially at sunset.

Note: While 1/2 story homes are unique and uncommon, old homes filled with historic architecture including original beams, plaster, flooring, fireplaces, molding and more can be found throughout Charleston’s historic South of Broad neighborhood.
