As the urban lifestyle of living and working in downtown Charleston has grown in popularity, many of the iconic neighborhoods located on the downtown Charleston SC peninsula have benefitted from revitalization and historic preservation. Is the East Side of Charleston with its vibrant diversity too much of a cultural stretch for your taste?  Then head for Elliotborough or Cannonborough. Here you’ll find, beautiful, historic Charleston homes that are still affordable and within easy walking distance of upper King Street.

This is where the locals live. Old Charleston has always been here although the neighborhood has seen many changes recently, mostly for the better. We love Percy St. and have three investment properties there, including a new construction project (pictured above). Bogart is a street with good potential and Rose Lane too – probably my favorite. On a summer evening, when the night wins over the waning day, it’s nice to just to walk around and stop at the many small bars and restaurants that populate the area and are loved by the locals – a few include Sugar Bakeshop, Xiao Bao, The Warehouse, Josephine Wine Bar

Lots of young professionals, students and long standing residents. Lots of restoration and new build underway, some of it ours, and some of it projects of developers who have a similar desire to do good and meaningful preservation work here in this city that we love. Trees, sidewalks and restored houses are mixed with the odd, unloved gem to retain that air of future hope defying this area of Charleston. Flooding is not an issue here, though some streets can be busy, Rutledge Avenue is a main thoroughfare. The northern end of Elliotborough has more opportunities, Line Street being the last bastion butting up against the Crosstown. This is “lived in” Charleston at its best, and a true representation of where the working class of Charleston resides.
